Undergang are an awesome sludge/crust band from Denmark that I had never heard of before tonight. They played San Francisco's Hemlock Tavern as part of their tour with locals Acephalix.
I was at the last Inquisition show at Elbo Room last year, but I left before they played. It was late, I didn't know who they were, and I had already seen Dispirit, Velnias, and Altar Of Plagues. Since then, I've gotten into their studio output and have been kicking myself for leaving early. But I got a second chance, and I was really impressed.
Apparently this was Necrite's last show. I heard it was their last show for a long time, but last night they said that this was it. I really hope that's not true because they band has never sounded so formidable. I heard that lineup issues were putting stress on the band, but the new lineup sounded incredibly solid. Necrite has one album out called 'Sic Transit Gloria Mundi' on Flenser Records. Look for an interview with Flenser in the next few days.
Excellent doom/death/crust band Vastum (members of Acephalix) opened for Inquisition at Elbo Room Wednesday night. They are about to release their debut album 'Carnal Law' on 20 Buck Spin at the end of this month.
